In addition to the United States and South Korea, in 2017 he also participated in a Japanese work as an MV director of HIROOMI TOSAKA (Thied Generation J Soul Brothers) solo project "WASTED LOVE," the first single.
" Mr. Tosaka watched my MV that I directed. When he would do solo activities someday he wanted to work together. I responded that I was happy, and immediately had a meeting in Japan. I wanted to shoot in Japan, but the Japan side wanted to shoot in South Korea. The club scene was Hongdae and the scene of the waste factory was taken at Yangpyeong. I watched one or two masterpieces of Mr. Tosaka in order to know d his angle and style, but I did not dare see any other MV in Japan. Because I do not want to resemble his past MV for me to direct. I thought that Mr. Tosaka offered me because he was seeking something that was not in Third Generation J Soul Brothers or Japanese MV directors. I would make an effect to use unique MV tone of myself. I liked Japan from before, and with this project, I became more interested. "
Shim Hyeong Jun feels a big appeal to Japan's unique emotions. He first visited Japan when he was a elementary school student.
"About the age of 12, there was a very small town exchange event in Korea which I lived and a neighborhood town near Tokyo. A Japanese boy one year older than me came to my house for a week, and I stayed for a week in his house. That was how I first learned about Japan. The movie I like most is Sofia Coppola's "Lost in Translation" taken in Tokyo. Scarlet Johansson's husband is a photographer who came to Tokyo for photographing the band, and the figure of preparing cameras and films at the hotel and going out with bags is really cool. At the time I was a student of photography department, so "I want to be a photographer who can work for overseas photography." I felt that Japan was a very wonderful place and I have been longing for Japan ever since. So when I first got MV's job in Korea (Jung Hyun's "The End of the Day"), I thought I should shoot it in Tokyo. Booking a hotel at Shin-Okubo, leaving the luggage and going out, vending machines, students who pass by the old-fashioned bicycle in uniforms, mothers put their children on the bicycle, each one of them was like a movie. I thought that there were so many emotions in that country. "
He visited Japan for the MV shooting of a Korean singer in the summer of 2017. He uploaded a picture taken in a room of Park Hyatt Tokyo known as the scene of "Lost in Translation" to Instagram. Shim Hyeong Jun was blessed with his talent and effort, his encounter with a lot of people, and made his dream come true. Surely he will be heading from the hotel room to the shooting site just like the Giovanni Ribishi in the movie.
"I'd be happy if I could do interesting works in Japan. I would like to do a photo exhibition and I would like to work with more Japanese musicians if I have the opportunity. I hope to increase opportunities to work in Japan "
From America to Korea, and to Japan. The field of Shim Hyeong Jun will surely spread further in the future beyond the borders and genres.
